Where is the link to the Senior Membership Application, Nomination, and Reference Form? It can be found on the Senior Member portal.
How soon after my application is reviewed will I know the results? Results of the meeting are emailed within two calendar weeks of the meeting date.
What are the dates of the review panel meetings? The Review Panel Meeting Schedule is posted to the web; dates and locations are subject to change.
When completing my application online can I use the back button in my web browser? Use of the web browser back button will return an error message. To avoid this, use the "Return to Portal" button at the bottom of the portal page.
Is there a membership requirement for Senior Member? You must have an active IEEE Membership in order to apply. There is no minimum membership time lenth other than your membership being active.
Will my application automatically be saved? Yes. As you move from tab to tab, your progress is saved.
Can I submit my application in paper form? No. The Senior Member application process is done 100% online. If you experience issues with the online portal that are not answered using the FAQs on this page, please contact the Senior Member team.
Am I able to create more than one application? Only one application can be active per applicant.
I have received several emails that my application is not complete. What should I do? If you have an application in “Draft,” you will continue to receive an auto-generated email to complete your application. Please email senior-member@ieee.org to request any draft applications to be deleted. "Draft" applications that are not submitted after one year of he creation date are removed and a new application will need to be started.
Can I upload a more current resume/CV? If your application is in “Draft” form and has not yet been submitted, you can log in to your application, click on the attachment tab, remove the current resume/CV, and then upload a new file.
Do I need to contact my reference to complete the reference form? Once you enter the membership number of your reference and submit your application, your reference will receive an email to complete the reference form. The link to the reference form is contained in the auto-generated email. If your reference does not complete the reference form, it is the applicant’s responsibility to follow up with references.
Where can I find references?
Why is the application not allowing me to add a reference? The application will display a message with the reason as to why the entered member cannot serve as a reference. Please note, in most cases, due to GDPR, we cannot reveal specific reasons as to why a reference cannot serve to anyone other than the reference. The display message will state to have them contact IEEE.
It says that my reference isn't an eligible grade. Why? In order to serve as a reference, the member must be an IEEE Fellow, IEEE Senior Member, IEEE Life Fellow, IEEE Life Senior, or IEEE Honorary Member. This message will appear if the member number entered is not one of these membership grades. The reference should contact IEEE if they have questions about their membership.
I already started my application. Can I still add a nominator? No. Nominations have to be entered prior to starting your application. Once the nominator signs in, enters the applicant’s membership number, and then signs out, the applicant can sign in and complete the application.
How can I delete an application? Please click the delete link that appears to the right of your name.
I submitted my application. Can I still make changes? Once an application has been submitted, changes cannot be made by the applicant. Email the change(s) to Senior Member staff (include your name and member number). Please note, IEEE staff cannot make changes to an application once it is "In Review". Please carefully review your application prior to submission.
How can I check the status of my application? You can check the status of your application by logging into the Senior Membership portal. For more information on what each status means, please visit Track status of application and references.
How do I know if my references completed the reference form? Log into the Senior Member portal and click on the references tab.
My reference completed a reference form for me. Am I able to see it? You will be able to see the reference was completed, but you will not be able to see what was specifically said. This information cannot be released by IEEE. The reference can share what they wrote if they so choose. Please note, references cannot make changes to their referral after they submit them.
I need my application reviewed before the next meeting. Can this be done? No. Applications are only able to be reviewed at one of the panel meetings. No exceptions can be made.
I missed the application deadline for the next meeting. Can I be added in? No. Applications must be fully completed with all references completed at least seven days before the panel meeting to allow for the proper preparations for the meeting. Once this process begins, we are unable to add applications.
My application was not approved. How do I submit additional information? Sign in to the Senior Member portal, click on the "attachments" tab. Please upload a new CV or any relevant information to help support your application. Then proceed to "review/submit" and the application will be reviewed at the next available panel meeting.
My application was approved. When will I receive the benefits for Senior Member? An email will be sent within two weeks of the meeting with more information about your approval and benefits.
What are the steps to nominate an applicant?
Can I nominate an applicant after they have completed the application? No. Nominations have to be done before the application is started.
What is the nominators role in an application? The nominator should be active in the completion of the application. Please work hand in hand with the applicant in the completion of the application.
Can I change my reference form information once it is submitted? Once you submit your reference form, changes cannot be made.
How do I view the reference forms I submitted? Sign in to the Senior Member portal and you will see a section that lists all your completed referrals.
I didn’t receive an email to complete the reference form; can I still complete it? Yes. Sign in to the Senior Member portal and scroll down. A list will appear with any applications that require your attention. Click on the “Complete Referral.”
Will my comments be shared with the applicant? No. IEEE staff will not provide your comments to the applicant. This is done to ensure you may speak freely and honestly with your referral.
